The Mall Battle
The Mall Battle was a major confrontation that took place at Georgia Square Mall in Athens. It began with the kidnapping of Hunter Graves and Alaina Cross and ended with an assault on a hostile group using the mall as their base. It is best remembered for the death of Charlie Amber and Raven Amber's record six consecutive shifts.
Background
A hostile group had taken up residence in Georgia Square Mall and was executing people. The group became aware of them and began planning a response.
The original plan was to herd Maws into the mall overnight and then assault in the chaos. That plan was abandoned when circumstances changed.
The Kidnapping
While on the highway, Hunter and Alaina were shot at and subsequently captured. They were taken into the mall and held.
With two members taken hostage inside the target location, the original plan was no longer viable. A rescue operation became the priority.
The Assault
Jack Dukes used a Hummer with a loudspeaker as part of the operation — drawing attention, creating noise, coordinating movement outside.
Raven Amber performed six consecutive shifts during the battle, a new record. The most anyone had previously heard of was four. Along with Nova Hellkin, Raven and Jack unleashed an unprecedented level of combined power during the assault.
Charlie's Death
Charlie Amber used telekinesis to launch herself to the top floor of the mall, reaching Hunter and Alaina and freeing them.
On the way down, she was shot in the face.
She died in a heap at the bottom.
Charlie's death was the defining loss of the battle. She had used everything she had to get to them, and it cost her everything. Her brother Raven Amber was present.
Aftermath
Hunter and Alaina were recovered alive.
The mall itself was burned in a later operation.
Charlie's death changed the group permanently. The cost of the rescue was not something that could be rationalized away — she had died doing exactly what she set out to do, and that made it no easier to carry.
